Frequently asked questions

Can I get accounting services for my aktiebolag in English?

Yes. Your bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll, annual report and corporate tax return are all prepared to Swedish requirements and we explain to you in English.

What does bookkeeping for a Swedish company actually involve?

Swedish companies are subject to a statutory bookkeeping obligation: transactions must be recorded on an ongoing basis, supporting documents kept, and the accounts closed annually. On top of that sit VAT returns, monthly employer declarations if you pay salaries, the annual report to Bolagsverket, and the corporate tax return to Skatteverket.

When must a Swedish AB file its annual report?

The annual report must reach Bolagsverket within a set number of months after the end of the financial year, and late filing carries automatic penalty fees that increase the longer it is outstanding. The corporate tax return has its own deadline, which depends on when your financial year ends.

How should I pay myself from my Swedish AB — salary or dividend?

Usually some of each, and the balance is genuinely worth calculating.

Do I need an auditor for my Swedish AB?

Smaller companies are generally exempt from the statutory audit requirement, subject to thresholds for turnover, balance sheet total and number of employees. Most owner-managed companies fall below them.

Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?

Yes, and it is a routine handover. We review what has been recorded so far, identify anything outstanding, and pick up the reporting cycle from an agreed date.
